Not legal advice

Everything on judgmentdesk.com is educational commentary for legal research. It is not legal advice, it is not a substitute for reading the judgment, and it does not create any advocate–client relationship. If a matter turns on any of these judgments, the facts always need counsel’s assessment.

The verbatim guarantee — and its limits

Every quotation attributed to a court is copied verbatim from the certified copy of the judgment and tagged with a paragraph number. Where the page interprets, it says so: “Our reading” is always labelled and kept visually separate from “The Court”.

Paragraph numbering follows the original transcript of each judgment. The numbering used by law reports (SCC and others) may differ after editorial renumbering — verify against your edition before citing pin-point in court.

Figures and aftermath

Where a page mentions amounts, filing counts or events from the aftermath of a case, those come from the public record as indicated on the page, not necessarily from the judgment itself.

Currency

The law moves. Each judgment’s treatment is checked when its page is published, but subsequent legislation or decisions may affect any holding described here. Always verify the current position before relying on it.

Interactive aids

The charts, self-tests and guided tours are illustrative aids built from each judgment’s own facts. They simplify by design and do not capture every limb, proviso or exception of the provisions they illustrate.
